British authorities have linked a series of arson attacks targeting properties connected to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer to a Russian-speaking handler.

The revelations emerged after a London court found two men guilty of participating in a coordinated campaign that targeted properties associated with the Prime Minister. Investigators said the attacks were directed by an individual operating under the alias “El Money,” a Russian-speaking online handler believed to have connections to networks operating from Russia.
According to prosecutors, the attacks took place in May 2025 and included the firebombing of a vehicle previously owned by Starmer, as well as attacks on residential properties linked to him and his family. One of the targeted homes was occupied by Starmer’s sister-in-law at the time of the incident, raising concerns about the potential risk to human life.
The convicted individuals, identified as Ukrainian national Roman Lavrynovych and Romanian citizen Stanislav Carpiuc, were allegedly recruited through Telegram and instructed to carry out the attacks in exchange for financial compensation. Court proceedings revealed that the handler offered thousands of pounds in cryptocurrency and maintained regular communication with the suspects throughout the operation.
Investigators believe the objective of the campaign was to create fear, generate media attention, and sow instability within the United Kingdom. Counter-terrorism officials described the attacks as part of a broader pattern of covert operations increasingly seen across Europe, where criminal recruits are allegedly used to conduct sabotage activities while those directing them remain hidden abroad.
While evidence presented during the trial pointed to Russian-speaking coordinators and potential links to pro-Kremlin networks, authorities stopped short of formally accusing the Russian state of direct involvement. Officials acknowledged that establishing definitive state responsibility remains difficult due to the covert nature of such operations and the use of intermediaries.
Separate media investigations have suggested that the mysterious handler may have connections to Russian diplomatic circles and influence operations designed to fuel social unrest in Western countries. However, those claims have not yet resulted in official charges against any Russian government representatives.
The case has intensified concerns among European security agencies about alleged Russian-linked hybrid warfare tactics, including sabotage, disinformation campaigns, cyberattacks, and the recruitment of vulnerable individuals online to carry out disruptive acts. Security experts warn that such operations are becoming increasingly difficult to trace because organizers often remain outside the countries where attacks occur.
The convicted men are expected to be sentenced later this week. British officials have condemned the attacks as an assault on democratic institutions and pledged to continue efforts to identify and prosecute those who planned and directed the operation from behind the scenes.
