Iran denies firing missile towards Turkiye after NATO interception

Turkiye’s Defence Ministry had said a ballistic missile fired from Iran towards Turkish airspace was destroyed by NATO air and missile defence systems over ‌the eastern Mediterranean.

Iran’s Armed Forces have firmly denied accusations that a missile was launched toward Turkish territory, emphasizing that the Islamic Republic fully respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Türkiye. The statement, carried by Iranian state media, dismissed the allegation as unfounded.

The clarification came after Türkiye’s Ministry of National Defence claimed that a ballistic missile allegedly fired from Iran toward Turkish airspace—passing over Syria and Iraq—was intercepted by NATO air and missile defense systems over the eastern Mediterranean.

Iranian officials stressed that such claims are inconsistent with Iran’s regional policy of respecting neighboring countries and maintaining stability, reiterating that Tehran has no intention of targeting Türkiye or violating its airspace.
