Japan hopes support for Palestine grows as Tokyo reaffirms commitment to two-state solution

Speaking during discussions on Middle East peace and regional cooperation, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi said Japan remains committed to supporting the establishment of an independent and viable Palestinian state living side by side with Israel in peace and security.

Motegi emphasized that East Asian countries can play a meaningful role in promoting peace by helping develop Palestinian governance, infrastructure, education, and economic capacity. He noted that sustainable peace in the region requires strong institutions capable of delivering public services and supporting long-term development.

The foreign minister highlighted Japan’s “Corridor for Peace and Prosperity” initiative, which seeks to foster economic cooperation between Israelis, Palestinians, and neighboring countries. He said such projects demonstrate how regional collaboration can contribute to stability while improving the lives of ordinary people.

Japan has consistently advocated dialogue and diplomacy as the only viable path to resolving the decades-long Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Motegi stressed that unilateral actions that undermine the prospects for peace should be avoided, urging all parties to exercise restraint and engage in meaningful negotiations.

He also expressed hope that international support for the Palestinian cause would continue to grow, enabling greater humanitarian assistance and development programs. According to Motegi, stronger international partnerships can help lay the foundation for lasting peace by promoting economic opportunity and institutional resilience.

Japan has provided significant humanitarian and development assistance to the Palestinian territories over the years, focusing on healthcare, education, infrastructure, and capacity-building initiatives. Tokyo believes these efforts are essential for creating the conditions necessary for a future Palestinian state.

The Japanese government reiterated that it remains committed to working with regional partners, the international community, and both Israeli and Palestinian leaders to achieve a comprehensive and lasting peace based on the internationally recognized two-state solution.
