Israel kills Palestinian nearing Gaza ‘yellow line’, bombs north

Israel demolishes Palestinian homes in Masafer Yatta after killing a man near Gaza’s ‘yellow line’ amid escalating tensions.

Israeli Strikes Intensify Across Gaza

Israeli air attacks have once again hit Gaza’s northern city of Beit Lahiya, eastern Gaza City, and Khan Younis in the south, where heavy artillery shelling has also been reported, according to Al Jazeera Arabic. The renewed bombardment has left civilians trapped in fear, with already devastated neighborhoods facing further destruction.

Mounting Civilian Casualties

Gaza’s Health Ministry reports that at least 245 Palestinians have been killed and 627 wounded since the ceasefire came into effect on October 10. Hospitals, struggling with shortages of fuel, medicine, and staff, are overwhelmed by the influx of casualties, underscoring the fragility of the truce and the humanitarian crisis gripping the enclave.

Fragile Ceasefire and UN Concerns

UN Secretary-General António Guterres described the ceasefire as “fragile” and “repeatedly violated,” urging all parties to honor their commitments. He emphasized that the pause in fighting should be used to pursue lasting peace and protection for civilians, rather than a temporary lull before renewed violence.

Cross-Border Escalation in Lebanon

In southern Lebanon, Israel struck what it described as a “weapons storage facility and an underground site used by Hezbollah.” Local sources report fear and displacement among nearby residents, as cross-border attacks risk expanding the conflict further into civilian areas.

Limited Humanitarian Access

Israeli authorities have reopened the Zikim crossing — the main entry point into northern Gaza — to permit limited humanitarian aid. Yet, aid groups say the assistance reaching the area remains grossly insufficient compared to the needs of hundreds of thousands of displaced people living without shelter, clean water, or medical care.

A Devastating Toll

Since the beginning of Israel’s campaign in October 2023, at least 69,185 Palestinians have been killed and 170,698 wounded, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. The conflict began after Hamas’s October 7 attack, which killed 1,139 people in Israel and saw around 200 taken captive. Human rights organizations continue to call for accountability and an end to attacks on civilians on both sides.
