‘Good progress’ being made after cyber attack wiped out Northern Ireland’s school systems

Restore access to Northern Ireland’s school network following a cyber attack which disrupted services over recent days.

The Education Authority (EA) has said “good progress” is being made to restore access to Northern Ireland’s school network following a cyber attack which disrupted services over recent days.

The EA confirmed that work has been ongoing throughout the weekend to bring the C2k system back online safely, with access now beginning to return in phases.

In a new update, the authority said efforts have initially focused on post-primary schools, with a wider rollout to follow in the coming days.

“We are continuing to make good progress to restore access to the C2k system following the recent cyber attack,” a spokesperson said.

“Our teams have been working hard through the weekend to restore access to the system safely and securely, starting with post primary schools. ”

It comes after the C2k system, which is used widely across Northern Ireland’s schools, was targeted in a cyber incident that forced a shutdown of access and a full password reset across the network.
