‘Israel is not implementing the ceasefire agreement in Gaza’

GAZA / RAMALLAH: A senior Palestinian leader has accused Israel of failing to comply with the recently agreed ceasefire in Gaza, warning that continued violations are worsening humanitarian conditions and undermining prospects for peace.

Mustafa Barghouti, a prominent Palestinian official, said that Israeli actions on the ground contradict commitments made under the ceasefire agreement brokered by the United States. He argued that Washington has failed to ensure Israeli adherence to the deal, raising serious concerns about the credibility of international mediation efforts.

Allegations of Continued Violations

Barghouti stated that Israeli military operations, restrictions on humanitarian aid, and continued strikes in certain areas indicate a pattern of non-compliance. According to him, these actions are not isolated incidents but part of a broader strategy aimed at “increasing suffering” among Palestinians in Gaza.

He added that the ceasefire, which was intended to halt hostilities and facilitate relief efforts, is being eroded by repeated breaches, leaving civilians exposed to ongoing insecurity and hardship.

Barghouti criticised former US President Donald Trump, claiming that his administration’s approach to the conflict has emboldened Israel and weakened mechanisms for accountability. He argued that despite brokering the ceasefire, the United States has not taken sufficient steps to enforce compliance.

“The US cannot remain a passive broker,” he said, calling for stronger diplomatic pressure to ensure that agreed terms are respected.

Call for International Action

In light of the alleged violations, Barghouti urged the international community to take concrete measures, including sanctions against Israel, to compel adherence to the ceasefire agreement.

He stressed that without accountability, ceasefires risk becoming symbolic rather than effective tools for conflict resolution.
